U.S. Troops Raid Chalabi's Headquarters in Baghdad

"U.S. troops and Iraqi police mounted a raid on Thursday on the headquarters of the party led by Governing Council member Ahmad Chalabi, a former Pentagon favorite who has become increasingly estranged from Washington. The soldiers raided the headquarters of the Iraqi National Congress (INC) and a nearby house also used by Chalabi, and removed computers, files and equipment."

Mr. Chalabi, who was convicted in Jordan as a fraud, claims,
"When someone stands up independently and puts his views firmly it appears the Americans don't like it."

His "independent" views had provided war's rationale to the neo-conservatives.

"U.S. officials said in February that an Iraqi who had been the source for Washington's prewar claim that Iraq had mobile biological weapons labs had fabricated the allegation. The man had been introduced to U.S. intelligence by Chalabi's group. No stockpiles of banned unconventional weapons have been found in Iraq. "

It could very well be the desire for power that had led Chalabi and many ilks like him to pursue lie infested tactics in drawing Americans to the Iraq war, however, what does it tell about the the Bush administration? How come they were so gullible that they had overlooked Chalabi's scam filled past?

Unless one is eager to be misled, especially on this very case, it would be definitely surprising to put all the blame on Chalabi's shoulder. There were other higher fishes in the play, that had "justified" the war with falsified "evidence" of WMD.

Only a fair and impartial investigation conducted by an independent body, preferably by the international community, could solve this mystery. But the powerfuls would not let it happen. Would they?
